Mackenzie Thorpe Sculpture Boxes
Mackenzie Thorpe is a world-renowned artist with a large international following, including JK Rowling and Queen Elizabeth II. His work includes paintings, published works and sculpture and has undertaken commissions for The Andre Agassi Foundation, The Elton John Aids Foundation, Princess Anne & William Hague.
In August 2018, Mackenzie Thorpe Ltd approached Polmac (UK) Ltd to discuss the possibility of accommodating 40 limited edition sculptures, in wood presentation boxes, that that were to be sent to various galleries around the world.
The challenge was to provide a design for a very large box (approx 1m in length) that reflected the degree of quality that Mackenzie Thorpe Ltd required and provide a robust, traditional look.
The boxes were to include foam inserts designed to protect the sculptures from impact damage in transit and these were to be supplied by Mackenzie Thorpe Ltd.
After some discussions, it was decided that the sculpture boxes would be made from natural Lindenwood, with strong vertical finger joints and finished in a mahogany wood stain.
The boxes were designed with hinged lids, secured with 3 No. surface fixed brass plated hinges at the back and 2 No. toggle catches at the front. Triangular metal protectors were also to be fixed at each corner for a more rustic feel and to provide additional impact resistance.
Mackenzie Thorpe Ltd wanted to brand their sculpture boxes, so the words ‘THE RACE’ and ‘MACKENZIE THORPE’ were to be screen printed in gold on the lids.
The consignment was delivered on time, despite an extremely tight delivery schedule and Mackenzie Thorpe Ltd confirmed that they were delighted with the quality of their sculpture boxes.
